Mech/Elec ALS Lesson Five - Electrical Systems: Calculations, Load Estimation

Mech/Elec ALS Lesson Five - Electrical Systems: Calculations, Load Estimation

Calculations
Calculations are not a required knowledge of an Architect, that is left to the electrical engineer on the project.
Good to know:
Voltage drop due to resistances of the wire may become noticeable in a large circuit.
No more than 3 percent is allowed in lighting circuits
No more than 5 percent in circuits supporting motors.

Load Estimation
Load estimation may be required early in a project.
Wattage per square foot can be estimated based on general experience for various building functions.
Actual load should eventually be determined by lighting calculations, not estimates.
