MEEB: Vertical Transportation: Elevators - Fire Safety

Most fire codes require the following occur in event of a fire emergency:
1. all cars close their doors and return, non stop to lobby or other designated floor, where they park and stay with doors open
Afterward they only work manually by fireman's key
2. All car and hall calls are canceled and call registered lights and direction arrows extinguished
3. fire emergency light or message panel in each car is activated to inform passengers of nature of the alert and that cars are returning to designated terminal.
4. Door sensors and in car emergency stop switches are deactivated.
5. Traveling cars stop at the nearest landing without opening doors, then proceed to the designated terminal.
