Simple description
Sheave(wheel) is attached to machine motor located directly over hoistway & car, rope is passes over the sheave, connects to the car and counter balance.
Sheave rotates and moves the car up and down requiring very little energy to operate.
Single wrap - rope only lays over sheave wheel.
deflector sheave - sheave name in single wrap scenario
Double wrap - rope is passed over a secondary sheave and back over the main drive sheave
causes greater traction, advantage of 2, permits use of high -speed, low power traction machine (lowering cost)
Used for medium speeds , 50-700 fpm and low speed heavy duty freight units
